Sandblasting
Sandblasting is a process which uses abrasive material or media and clean compressed air to strip, clean, or shape a part.
At Rocky Top Coating Shop, we use different sandblast media to achieve several surface prep goals:
-
rust
-
paint
-
raw metal
Powder Coating
Powder coating is a high-performance finishing process that applies a dry, electrco-statically charged powder paint to metal surfaces before curing it in an industrial oven to create
a durable, attractive finish.
Unlike traditional paint, powder coating provides superior resistance to chipping, scratching, fading, and corrosion.
The key to a long-lasting finish begins many steps before the powder is applied. Proper surface prep and pre-treatment are essential for removing contaminants, promoting, adhesion, and maximizing corrosion resistance.
At Rocky Top Coating Shop every project undergoes the following 4 step pretreatment process including de-ionized water rinse.
-
alkaline cleaning: removes oil and grease
-
first rinse: de-ionized water rinse
-
zirconium conversion coating: applies a protective adhesion promoting layer. Our advanced pre-treatment is equally appropriate for all metals including aluminum
-
second rinse: de-ionized water rinse leaves no minerals behind which aids in adhesion
*We also offer the following additional steps:
-
sandblasting (although not needed with proper pre-treatment, can add even better adhesion to most projects)
-
sealant (seals pre-treatment and adds corrosion resistance)
